Final maturation phase

When follicles are deemed to have grown, we proceed to final maturation of eggs by administration of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). The medications used are also marketed in the form of subcutaneous or intramuscular injections under the trade names Pregnyl, Profasi or Ovitrelle.

This last injection is administered late at night (close to midnight) and egg retrieval is planned 34 - 37 hours later. You will receive specific instructions about the time of this last injection (Pregnyl, Profasi or Ovitrelle).

After this last injection, all other medications are discontinued (agonists, antagonists or gonadotropins). The tedious phase of daily injections is over. On the following day, you may rest and prepare yourself for egg retrieval.
